Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Procedural Scheduling


  1. Which location should I select for the procedure?
    • CEC: Suitable for routine bronchoscopy, EBUS, and navigational bronch cases.
    • MOR: Ideal for procedures with a higher potential risk of complications (i.e., rigid bronchoscopy, cryo/APC biopsy) AND/OR patients with higher ASA (III/IV).
    • Clinic Bronch Suite: For routine inspection bronchoscopy for patients with low ASA (I/II).
    • Note: CEC will not accept patients who need bronch for TB rule out these procedures should be done in the MOR or clinic bronch suite.
  2. How do I input the bronchoscopy procedure order?
    • Enter “bronchoscopy” in the orders search bar.
    • Choose the appropriate procedure.
    • Fill out the necessary information.
    • Confirm and sign the order.
  3. What should I do if I have a last-minute add-on case that needs to go in the MOR?
    • Reach out to the OR CC at 619-384-6231 to discuss the case.
  4. Do I need to order pre-op labs?
    • Order a urine pregnancy test for premenopausal women if the procedure is taking place in the clinic bronch suite.
    • Order other tests if clinically necessary.
    • Note: There’s no longer a requirement for a COVID test.
  5. What is the process for scheduling a procedure?
    • Schedule a preop appointment with the patient and ensure the procedure consent form is completed.
    • Email the completed Anesthesia “Adult Patient Evaluation Screening Worksheet” and the signed procedure consent form to the Anesthesia PreOp listserv.
    • Fill out the scheduling template with all the necessary details and email it to Rocky. CC the clinic RN, the consult staff for the week of the procedure, and the doctor performing the procedure.
    • Once the procedure is officially scheduled, you’ll receive a calendar invite/notification from Rocky.
    • After a dedicated FIN is generated for the procedure, you can enter procedure-related orders.
  6. How can I determine if a patient is suitable for a procedure in the clinic bronch suite?
    • The clinic bronch suite is suitable for routine inspection bronchoscopy for patients with low ASA (I/II).
    • Patients who need bronch for TB rule out cannot be accommodated in the CEC these should be scheduled in the MOR or clinic bronch suite.
  7. What steps should I follow for a Pulmonary Clinic Bronchoscopy Suite Case?
    • Confirm LT Kozlowski’s availability for conscious sedation.
    • Schedule a pre-op appointment with the patient and ensure the procedure consent form is completed.
    • Fill out the information template and email it to Rocky, CC-ing the clinic RN and the consult staff for the week of the procedure.
    • Once a dedicated FIN is generated for the procedure, you can enter procedure-related orders.
