Tools for Measuring Competency Outcomes


Medical Knowledge:

  • Morning Pulmonary Case Conference: Fellows are assessed for their ability to interpret imaging studies, diagnose pulmonary diseases, and recommend treatment plans based on complex data synthesis.
  • Wednesday Radiology Conference: Fellows are evaluated for their knowledge of imaging interpretation, including differential diagnoses of radiographic patterns of pulmonary disease.
  • Monthly Rotation Evaluation: Attending physicians assess fellows’ knowledge through their ability to synthesize physical exam, laboratory, and imaging data to generate a working differential diagnosis. Fellows are also assessed for their knowledge of pulmonary procedures.
  • Core Lecture: Fellows deliver four core scientific lectures each year to demonstrate their expertise in a topic in pulmonary or critical care medicine.
  • Pulmonary Inservice Examination: Fellows complete the Association of Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine Program Directors (APCCMPD) annual in-service examination.
  • Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Board Examinations.
